What is microcement?
Learn everything about this coating

Microcement is the decorative coating that has been designed to personalize all types of surfaces with luxury finishes. It provides a continuous surface that conveys distinction and sophistication in any space of the home. The absence of joints maximizes the spaciousness of the space and facilitates the maintenance of the coating. With this material, each surface is unique. It coats floors and walls to create an exclusive decorative style. Its resistance to high temperatures, abrasion and wear caused by the passage of time make it the ideal coating to apply on both interior and exterior surfaces. In addition, it neither cracks nor splits.

What is microcement made of?

Microcement is formulated based on cement, resins, aggregates, additives, and pigments. From the mixture of these elements, a uniform paste of just 3 millimeters is obtained, ideal for coating walls, floors, and ceilings. The result of applying this coating translates into the creation of a beautiful, consistent surface, without joints and that does not crack. As a decorative coating, it is a lightweight material, which does not require large equipment for its application. The necessary materials are transported in a more comfortable way, compared to other decorative materials.

Types of Luxury Concrete® microcement to create spaces of incalculable value

The choice of microcement is not trivial. Each place has characteristics that define it, has needs to cover, and is exposed to the conditions of the space. It's not just about focusing attention on achieving a stunning aesthetic that captures all eyes. It is essential to hit the mark with a fully guaranteed material that adapts to each situation.

An indoor space is not subject to the external weather factors, nor a room like the living room to the ambient humidity and water as the bathroom and the kitchen are to a lesser degree. Similarly, to cover the area around a pool, it is fundamental to be able to ensure a non-slip finish.

That's why, at Luxury Concrete® we have developed specific microcement systems according to surface and space. So you always make the right decision.

Two-component microcement

It is a coating that consists of cement and resin. It offers high adhesion and a variety of textures to achieve unique finishes in any room. Our range of two-component products consists of one for preparation (Concrete Base) and three for finishing to achieve luxury finishes on walls (Concrete Wall), on floors (Concrete Floor), stony (Concrete Stone) and in pools (Concrete Pool).

Microcement ready to use

It is the plaster that offers a faster application. It is ideal for making simple renovations in record time. This collection features products with different granulometries that provide different finishes depending on the arrangement, vertical or horizontal, of the surface. For fine grain walls Easycret Thin and coarse grain Easycret Basic. Meanwhile, for floors with continuous and homogeneous finishes Easycret Medium, and for floors with rockier finishes, Easycret Extra.

Monocomponent microcement

It is the microcement that contains the resin in powder form and only needs to be mixed with water. It is the product designed to facilitate storage and preparation. Our series of monocomponent microcements is composed of the Monocrete Base preparation coating, the Monocrete Wall finishing coating for walls, and the Monocrete Floor finishing coating for floors.

Epoxy microcement

The microcement that combines aggregates and epoxy resin to offer an impeccable aesthetic finish and superior performance in demanding interior spaces. Concrete Pox is the ideal solution for coating walls and floors of factories, warehouses, commercial buildings, offices, restaurants, and bathrooms. More resistant to abrasion, high traffic, and water. Concrete Pox Extra, Concrete Pox Basic, Concrete Pox Medium, and Concrete Pox Thin are the four available granulometries.

Lime-based microcement

Of a two-component nature and lime-based, Limecrete has everything one aspires to when decorating a space. A more sustainable composition for the planet, a handmade finish that allows to play with aesthetics to unsuspected levels and a greater hardness to create crack-free surfaces. Tradition and future go hand in hand in its four high decoration granulometries: Limecrete Extra, Limecrete Basic, Limecrete Medium and Limecrete Thin.

Where to apply microcement?

Any space can be the perfect place to show personality and status. Microcement as a luxury coating is the dream material to create privileged corners and convey the essence of homes or commercial premises, taking care of all the details and uniting the different surfaces with the same material.

Its versatility as a decorative coating increases the design possibilities exponentially. Beyond the square footage, any place where luxury is breathed meets three premises: good distribution, quality finishes, and brightness. Microcement is the common link of the three and lays the foundation for creating stylish spaces, whether on the floor, the walls, the kitchen, the bathroom, or outdoors, where visual limits do not exist.

Microcement floors

Microcement on floors is one of the most common applications due to its high resistance to foot traffic. Coating the pavement in this way is to create a surface that is easy to clean, as the absence of joints prevents dirt from getting ingrained in hard-to-reach areas.

As a luxury decorative coating, it can be applied indoors and outdoors on any type of support, except parquet, as it contracts and expands, which could cause cracks. It is the best ally to enhance the brightness of any room.

Microcement on walls

Opting for this coating on vertical surfaces is to do so for a silky finish that enhances the decorative style. It is the ultimate expression of beauty that can be achieved with microcement. This coating provides greater durability, elasticity, and resistance to the vertical walls on which it is placed and achieves finishes of high aesthetic value without eliminating the existing surface. Pure elegance on a non-walkable surface.

With the application of the sealing varnish, the final finish is beautified and a waterproof coating to running water is achieved. It is the perfect solution to apply it in damp spaces. The cement finish on the walls gives even more amplitude to each room and conveys exquisite elegance.

Microcement in kitchens

Microcement in kitchens transforms and coats this part of the house so exposed to wear without the need to remove the old tiles. Its extraordinary adherence to all types of supports and its high resistance are the best introduction to renovate the kitchen with this luxury decorative coating. It is a material made to be stain-proof.

Kitchens in which this material has been used to coat the floor or the wall are resistant to the impacts of everyday objects. They conquer light and transmit a sense of greater amplitude than any other coating offers. It combines perfectly with metallic or stone finishes.

Microcement bathrooms

Microcement bathrooms have conquered interiors and have become a source of inspiration. The time has come to coat the walls, the floor, the sink, the shower or the bathtub with the same material. The sealing varnish completes a dream application to achieve a bathroom that is resistant to moisture. It is the ideal decorative coating to achieve a non-slip finish, a very important functionality in a room where falls due to slips are frequent

The icing on the renovated bathroom with this coating comes with the colors. If gray seems like a cold tone, you can always choose a shiny finish or in white to get a greater sense of warmth. The options for this material are many and making a bathroom with its own style is one of them. Custom bathroom designs.

Microcement pools

Microcement pools are one of the latest trends in the decorative use of this coating. Renovating or creating a pool from scratch is quite a challenge for which quality materials are needed if you want to achieve unique finishes. Resistance to impacts and scratches is guaranteed. It offers continuity in design and total integration with the environment surrounding the pool.

Microcement in the pool neither expands nor contracts with temperature changes. Its application allows for a complete change to the pool with just a few millimeters of thickness. Create a dream pool to immerse yourself in elegance and luxury.

Microcement stairs

There are places we would always want to pass through. And microcement stairs are one of them. They offer incredible views and allow you to breathe exclusivity with every step. They create unique finishes with an unparalleled sense of spaciousness to achieve a high-end decorative atmosphere.

Stairs modernized with this material allow us to transport ourselves to different environments. Their chromatic possibilities are endless. They are an architecture within the home itself and the ideal option to break with more classic decoration. They enhance any decorative style to create an incomparable and full of beauty place. Connect different floors with a handmade design.

Microcement in exterior

Is there anything more inviting to rest than a corner made to your measure? Spaces like terraces are perfect scenarios to enhance microcement outdoors. Its excellent durability and decorative finishes create unique spaces to relax.

The landscapes, the environment, and the natural colors that surround the microcement outdoors make it incomparable. If we add to this the elegance that a good choice of colors provides, it is no longer comparable to other decorative coatings.

We always like outdoor spaces, regardless of the time of year. And even more so if it is a large terrace, surrounded by a garden and with an impeccable continuous surface.

How is microcement applied?

Exclusivity is a property that makes something unique and singular. Totally different from the rest. Microcement coatings are, in part, due to their artisanal application. An installation that cannot be delegated to just anyone, but only to experts in the field who control from a to z of this art.

Relying solely on experts to remodel a home or business is the only path to successful and guaranteed results, and thus meet the expectations of the most demanding customers.

As for the process of applying microcement itself, reserved only for expert labor, it should be noted that the method can experience variations depending on the microcement system. But also due to the special treatment that may be required by the support on which the material is going to be placed. Such as those that present previous problems of capillary dampness.

Even so, and by way of summary, we present below in a general way how microcement is applied in six quick and simple steps.

  1. Support cleaning: The preparation of the support is fundamental and it is essential to ensure that it is free of dust, moisture and grease. The base of the support must be consolidated and in perfect conditions of planimetry.
  2. Application of primer or bonding bridge and placement of a fiberglass mesh: The primer facilitates the adherence of the base microcement to the surface.
  3. Base or preparation microcement: Two layers of base microcement will be applied, which offers a coarser grain. It provides great mechanical resistance and strong adherence on any type of support.
  4. Finishing microcement: Two layers of finishing microcement will be applied to the surface, the texture of which will depend on the desired finish. Depending on the movements of the trowel, different aesthetic effects will also be achieved.
  5. Once the surface is dry and, after 24-48 hours from the application of the second layer of the finishing microcement, the surface will be sanded.
  6. Application of the sealing varnish: It is advised to apply two coats of the chosen sealing varnish to protect the support.

Microcement colors: Luxury Concrete® range for any decorative style

When we think of microcement, most associate this decorative coating with the color gray. But the truth is that it admits a wide variety of colors, textures and finishes. Its pigmentation system allows to achieve custom colors. The colors of Luxury Concrete cover the luminous and minimalist tones of light shades, the more collected atmospheres of warm pigments and the daring of the most vivid chromatisms.
A chromatic range that adapts to any environment and decorative style.

Basic Collection

The Basic range is characterized by its bright and elegant colors that give prominence to the furniture and decoration. They are colors in which whites and creams predominate, projecting a sense of cleanliness, peace, and serenity.

Warm Collection

This range is ideal for creating contrast effects with cool tones, whether white, grays or cream, to not attenuate the entry of natural light and obtain a striking and intense room.

Nordic Collection

The colors that emerged from the cold. Light shades in which the eagerness to try to capture the brightness and enhance it by all means predominates. Also, Live colors are evocative colors that can bring back memories in a vivid way, from a paradisiacal vacation in the Seychelles to an alpine walk in Piedmont, these pigments bring back the romanticism of our most special moments.

Is microcement waterproof? Indeed

At Luxury Concrete® we know that there are certain elements that can threaten people's quality of life. That's why, we manufacture products that can be definitive when it comes to creating spaces where well-being is breathed.

In this way, our microcements originally resist running water and its derivatives, such as humidity. This makes it the best option for coating areas such as kitchens or bathrooms where temperature variations and contact with water can be permanent.

Even so, that resistance can be greatly increased by applying our Primacrete Finish varnish, which creates a protective film that aids in the conservation and maintenance of such areas in great conditions making them waterproof.

Is microcement non-slip? Affirmative

In the pursuit of excellence, Luxury Concrete® never stops innovating to improve our products. That's why, to the list of qualities of our microcements, we add one more: it is non-slip.

Thus, among our range of systems we find some like the Concrete Stone, which are naturally non-slip. In addition, we create varnishes with which any microcement support can become so.

Because we know that if a place is safe, it is more beautiful and that increases the desire to enjoy it. Thanks to this property, kitchens, bathrooms, swimming pools, increase their anti-slip features with a roughness in their finishes never seen before, which helps to reduce to the maximum the number of slips that may occur.

What is the durability of microcement?

Microcement has a high durability and, with proper maintenance, the decorative coating withstands the passage of time without signs of deterioration. To carry it out properly, frequent cleaning with a neutral detergent is enough. With the use of Luxury Concrete® maintenance waxes, the surface retains its original appearance with a glossy finish and increases its durability and resistance in the long term.

Can microcement be applied to radiant floor? Yes, it is possible

At Luxury Concrete® we understand luxury as a way of life, one that allows you to enjoy all the comforts of your home. That's why we design microcements that are compatible with radiant floors (except Concrete Pox).

In addition to the best material, we also have the best team of professional applicators required for the application of this material on this type of flooring with integrated heating system, due to the complications that may arise during its application and commissioning.

What is the price of microcement per m2?

All the elegance and distinction that Luxury Concrete® brings to any space does not influence its price. To determine the cost of microcement per square meter, various external aspects must be considered such as how many meters in total are to be covered, how many professional applicators are needed to carry it out, the condition of the area to be coated and whether it needs to be repaired, etc. These variables are what will determine the total price of an application with Luxury Concrete® in which luxury finishes are guaranteed.

Microcement or liquid porcelain: which is better?

Just like microcement, liquid porcelain is also a material that is in high demand for the qualities it offers, its excellent finish, and its price. But, which is better? The answer is simple: it depends on the finish you are looking for, the surface to be renovated, and the execution process.

If we focus on the surface, while microcement can be applied on walls and floors and even furniture, liquid porcelain is only recommended for its viscosity on floors and other horizontal surfaces. As for the finish, there are also notable differences. The first is smooth and uniform and can range from matte to satin. The second, with a much shinier and transparent appearance, can incorporate 3D elements and create very powerful visual effects.

Visible differences also in the application process. Liquid porcelain is exclusive for interiors, as the epoxy resin it contains can yellow outdoors. Likewise, it requires applying a self-leveler. Microcement, on the other hand, can be placed outdoors, and in fact it is done a lot on facades, terrace pavements, swimming pools, etc. We finish with the price. The cost of a liquid porcelain coating is much higher than that of microcement.

What is polished microcement?

Polished microcement as such does not exist. The correct term is polished cement. Two terms that are often confused. Polished cement, which is also called polished concrete, is not a coating, but a decorative finish. Applicable only on interior floors, it is characteristic for its bright and shiny appearance as a result of the use of a rotary polisher that polishes the surface. It also requires expansion joints.

And the smoothed microcement? What is it?

Smoothed microcement is another way to refer to microcement. A material that incorporates the most advanced technology to replace the finish of cement in a faster and more economical way.

A pigmented coating formed by the mixture of cement powder, polymers, quartz, and resins. From the sum of its layers, a thickness between 2 and 3 millimeters is created. It is placed without removing or stirring the existing coating and without joints.

Which microcement to choose?

There are no better or worse microcements. There are only types of microcement more valid than others depending on the use and field of application. Trust an expert and let yourself be advised to avoid inconveniences in the future.

Do you have to use mesh to apply microcement?

As a general rule, specialists recommend using a mesh when applying microcement, especially in the case of pavements. Although there are also cases of walls, such as tile ones, where it is also very convenient to use the mesh. The reason? For greater stability of the new support and to avoid tensions that could cause the appearance of cracks.

However, it is not a mathematical rule, there are exceptions. There are some microcements for which the use of the mesh is not strictly mandatory. This is the case for example of our ready-to-use microcement Easycret, the pool one Concrete Pool or the epoxy Concrete Pox. Always consult your expert.

Can microcement be applied outdoors?

Of course. Microcement resists UV rays, rain, high traffic, and wear from abrasion. Concrete Stone is our premier system for outdoors.

Can microcement be applied over a parquet floor?

We recommend removing the parquet flooring as well as the wood as these are materials whose plates can undergo expansions and movements that would generate cracks in the microcement.

Most common problems with microcement

  • Not respecting the ambient and support temperature: excesses are never good, and the application of microcement was not going to be an exception. At too low temperatures, the coating may take a long time to reach the expected hardness and mechanical resistance. And at too high temperatures, the opposite happens.
  • Not respecting the application process: methods are there for a reason: to comply with them. If the drying times are not respected, the primer used is not the correct one, the support is not properly sealed and even if it is not repaired if it has imperfections prior to the application of the microcement... problems will arise.
  • Cheap is expensive: microcement does not crack or fissure, unless a poor quality product is used, the joints are not filled if it is applied for example on concrete or the support is in poor condition and is not rectified.
